More Snow!

At the end of last week, we had a huge snow storm.  Well, today, we have another big snow storm.  I've taken so many pictures of the snow from the house or us playing in the snow.  I thought it would be cool to start from the first storm of Thursday and just do a big picture post of our snow. Thursday What can I say... My husband never grew out of his teenage years... Friday Saturday Sunday Monday Tuesday

Happy Homemaker Monday

The Weather::: It's cold and we still have snow all over the ground from last week, and tonight through Wednesday we are supposed to get more.  I'm actually kind of excited! Right now I am:  Sitting on the couch, snuggling Sydney and sniffling away. Thinking: About how much I need to do today, but would much rather get some rest. On my reading pile::: The Widow of Larkspur Inn by Lawanna Blackwell, and Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder  We've not been real good about reading lately.  Not the big books anyway. On my tv:::   Ripper Street  Tonight is also the new Bones and Monday Mornings Favorite Blog post this week (mine or other)::: I'm not sure.  I haven't had a lot of opportunity for blog reading. Something fun to share::: Yesterday I got to meet the Archbishop.  Just a really great experience. On the menu for this week::: This week may be a bit tricky as I have groceries to get us to, possibly through Wednesda...

Snow Days!

You know it's either going to snow really bad, or do nothing at all when they cancel school the day before snow is even supposed to start.  We actually got a bunch of snow already!!!  When we buy groceries, we by enough to hopefully get us from one pay day to the next, so we didn't have to run to the grocery store, our vehicles are nice and gassed up, we went to the library to get new books yesterday, and last night, Shawn even made a double batch of M&M cookies.  I guess you could say, we were prepared.  We watched the latest Muppet movie last night as a family (for the like 5th time) and then went to bed with no snow and woke up to a lovely snow filled view from our bedroom window. I came downstairs to let the dog out and then back in.  I think she thought it was too cold to pee and after eating a little snow, she ran back inside. When we came back inside and I cooked us yummy blueberry muffins and pumpkin coffee.  Warm and delicious on this...

Happy Homemaker Monday

Well, I missed last week, but I am back now!!!! The Weather::: Today is supposed to be about 45 degrees today, and 30s and 40s all week long. Right now I am:  Taking a quick break before fixing lunch, sitting on our comfy couch. Thinking: I have so much to do today to get this house back in order. On my reading pile::: The Widow of Larkspur Inn by Lawanna Blackwell, and Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder On my tv::: I really need to get all caught up on Downton Abbey. Favorite Blog post this week (mine or other)::: The Nerd Nest - My Funny Valentine  As I read this, I laughed my hiney off!   Something fun to share::: Rylie turned one last week and we threw her a big birthday party on Saturday with the whole family.  Instead of the stress from making my own cake for the party.  We went out to eat and ordered a cake from a friend.  She did an amazing job.  It tasted delicious and looked wonderful! On the menu for this...

Rylie's First Birthday

A year ago from yesterday, we were blessed to have sweet little Rylie Jane join this crazy family.  I can't believe it's already been a year. Everyday, she grows more and more and not just in size, but also personality and beauty and intelligence.  She's our little miracle. Yesterday was her very first birthday and it was bittersweet.  I'm really excited for her to grow but I also would like to keep her my little baby forever. Yesterday, Ben and Sydney helped me make her birthday cakes.  It was a lot of fun, and the cakes turned out great.  Can you tell the kids were on sprinkle duty? Last night, I ordered a few pizzas, Torren, Shawn's Parents, Terry, Morgan and the girls came over, and we ate, opened presents, and had cake and ice cream.  It was a wonderful evening. Also, because it was Valentine's Day, valentines and candy were exchanged.  Lots of kids with sugar highs here. After presents came cake time! ....

Lime Chicken with Pineapple

I have recently fallen in love all over again with my Southern Living Homestyle Cookbook.  I've cooked several amazing recipes out of it in the past week or two.  This one got a "my wife is the best cook on the planet" post from my husband on facebook.  That's always a nice feeling.  One thing I LOVE about using my own cookbooks, is the ability to make your own notes on the pages. I did make a few adjustments to fit what I had on hand and because I cooked it inside. Lime Chicken with Pineapple 4 boneless skinless chicken breast 1 tsp salt, divided 1 tsp pepper, divided 1 cup fresh lime juice, divided 1/2 cup pineapple juice 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 pineapple, cored and cut in slices lengthwise 1 orange, sliced thinly 2 tbsp honey 1/2 tsp lime zest Place the chicken breasts between 2 pieces of plastic wrap and flatten to about 1/4 inch thick with a meat mallet or rolling pin.  Mine may have been a little thicker.  Sprinkle evenly wit...

So Little Time

As I sit here typing this at the kitchen table, the kids are in the living room watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates and playing something with babies and bad guys.  Potatoes are boiling on the stove, the rest of dinner is ready to go in the oven, the table is set, and the dishwasher is ready to run after we eat.  I'm exhausted, like most days, and have my class this evening.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy going, but this evening, I'm so ready for pajamas and bed. I have not had the best run lately.  I've been suffering from withdrawals from a medication that I stupidly quit taking for a couple of days, only because I was to lazy to drive across town.  That has been no picnic, but today was the first day that I woke up, not feeling like my heart was going to pound out of my chest and like something was crawling underneath my skin.  Yes, not fun!  Moral of the story.  Take your meds as prescribed!  The consequences of being lazy can be...
