Turning Things Around

So, while the broccoli cooks for dinner, I thought I'd sit down and escape my life for a moment or two.  Tune out the constant tantrum Rylie has been in all day and have a moment of mommy time.  I read a recent blog post by my friend Sandra.  She's always got words of wisdom, and sometimes, I feel like she's looking in my windows and the posts are really about me and my life.  I know that's weird, but today, it really spoke to me. Sandra's post was talking about how she was going to get on here to post about how life is so unfair and how bad things are but instead realized that maybe her negative thinking is bringing the negativity to her.  Maybe, I'm doing the same.  Most of my posts lately have been about the tantrums, the not listening, and the disrespect at home. I should be happy with what I have.  I have a roof over my head, a wonderful loving husband, and four beautiful children that ::gasp:: occasionally act like children. I think my posts ...

Another Rough Day

Today was and still is a struggle.  Last night, we were up later than the kids should have been.  I know, I'm to blame.  I knew last night that today would be rough.  I didn't realize it would be this bad. I'm on the verge of shutting myself in my room with a giant glass of wine and crying my eyes out while the children fend for themselves downstairs.  I'm not going to, but boy do I want to. The days have to get better right?  This is just a rough patch, please tell me this is just a rough patch! Rylie refuses to eat anything I cook.  I know what you mom's are thinking.  She'll eat when she's hungry.  Nope, really she won't.  She cries for something else, something specific.  I love my kids but I'm not making everybody a separate meal. I know, the easy thing would be to just clear the table and then, come time for the next meal, she'll eat.  Can I really send a kid to school without eating, if I know she's hungry? Today, ...
Over the years I got to be quite a connoisseur of soap. Though my personal preference was for Lux, I found that Palmolive had a nice, piquant after-dinner flavor - heavy, but with a touch of mellow smoothness.  Lifebuoy , on the other hand... (Yechh!) ~ A Christmas Story You are standing outside the doors of your child's school waiting to pick them up.  The doors open and the children start spilling out into the school yard. Your child's teacher sees you, makes eye contact, and starts walking your way.  They are only about 15 maybe 20 feet away, but the walk to you feels like slow motion as your stomach drops and you want to turn and run, but can't. They tell you, your child did something so awful to a classmate that it makes you cringe and really want to run away. Surely I am not the only one this has happened to, right?  This is the 3rd time this has happened to me, this year.  When it happens to me, I feel like I've hopped in a time machine and I'm t...

Rough Days

Warning:  This post contains the venting of a hormone crazed, sleep deprived mother, that now has four children ages six and under. I'm having one of those motherhood days where I haven't slept in a couple of days due to a sick one week old and I'm dealing with kids that seem to have it out for me.  They are coughing, sneezing, and wiping their runny noses all over the tables, couches, their clothes, blankets, and basically any other surface available to them.  They don't listen to a single thing I ask or tell them to do or not do. They fight with each other or me non stop and every time Scotland finally falls asleep, they wake her, either by screaming and yelling or coming up and messing with her. I'm trying to be patient.  I'm hormonal and exhausted, and they are going through big changes with a new sister.  I could probably handle the arguing and fighting, the not listening, and even their messes though if it weren't for the germs and illness.  I kno...

Lazy Friday

I'm working hard to roll with the punches, but it's getting difficult. So, I've started a couple of blog posts over the past few days but because I've been so busy, I never got to finish them.  I'm going to try to compile them all into one blog post now since so much has happened. I started the week out with a fun crafty idea.   It's a warm compress.  I think I'm going to make them for the kids because their room is so cold at night, to heat up their beds.  I used rice for the first one but was told I could use flax seed to avoid the rice smell.  I also thought about putting in essential oils.  It turned out really cute though. I also have been working on my hexagon blanket a little bit when I get the chance. It's taking so long because I have so many things I want to do and not enough time to do it.  I've also picked back up and old book (The Widow of Larkspur Inn) I had just stopped reading about half way throu...

Ugh Today!

I have had a rough week. It's been stressful and nearly heartbreaking, starting on Tuesday when both of my kids darted out in front of moving cars on separate occasions, and Shawn's plane having problems mid flight. Now the things aren't so big, but they just keep piling up. Today, it broke me. I couldn't take anymore even though more kept getting added on. The kids fought all morning. It's just frustrating as a parent to be breaking up fight after fight but it's pretty common, at least in our household. We decided to go to Shawn's parent's house and Shawn and the kids were going to go fishing with Terry. While I finished getting all of our stuff put together, Ben and Syd played in the front yard. We have a neighbor who thinks it is acceptable to take her dog into our front yard to poop. I assume this is so she doesn't have to worry about stepping in it or clean it up. Well, Ben stepped in it and tracked it all through the van as we were leav...

An Awful, Awful Day

Do you ever have days where everything comes tumbling down all at once?  That was today for me.  I guess it started last night, really... (This is a big ranting post, just so you know ahead of time...) Last night, Shawn and I were doing laundry, packing his suitcase and picking up the house from the whirlwind weekend.  We were also watching Game Of Thrones.  That show is absolutely addictive and we were almost to the end of the season so we went ahead and finished it.  At about 2:00 we were ready for Bed.  I was changing Rylie's diaper on the bed on her changing pad.  She pee'd and it ran off the pad, all over the top sheet and comforter.  I got up and stripped the wet blankets off of the bed, cleaned Rylie up and got her new pjs and diaper on.  We were just laying back down when Ben came walking into the bedroom.  We got him laying down on the floor and almost asleep when Sydney came in.  We got several blankets (for us on the ...
