Lent and Giving Up to Better Yourself

So, being a Catholic, of course I'm following Lent.  This year I gave up my potty mouth, or at least I'm trying to.  I want to be a better person, and how can I do that with a mouth like a sailor?  I mean, plenty of good people curse but I feel that to be the best me I can be, I need to fix my mouth.  I don't allow my kids to say those words, so I need to lead by example.  Being super pregnant, the food restrictions don't always work, although I'm doing my best. Every day of Lent, I get an email that is 40 things to give up for Lent and Beyond.  They are great things, that even non religious people should take a look at, and today's was a big one.  Everyday you are giving something to give up, scriptures, questions to consider, plans of action, and reflection. Today's email recommended giving up Hatred. The reflection spoke to me more than anything else, so here it is: Yesterday we learned about the death of Fred Phelps, the fo...

Easter Weekend

I sure hope that everyone else had an amazing Easter weekend.  I know I sure did.  I feel like I spent all of Friday running errands.  We went clothes shopping and to see the cute kitties at the pet store again.  Ben loved them too.  I really want them, but part of me still thinks it's too soon, and I'm not sure Shawn is ready yet either.  While we out and about, I made the decision to chop off all my hair. I love my new haircut.   I went to the Good Friday service alone since the Holy Thursday one lasted for 2 hours and I knew that Saturday's was going to be 2 1/2 hours.  I didn't want to push it with the kids.  The service was beautiful and only lasted a little over an hour. Saturday was a busy day.  We spent the morning getting stuff done around the house to prepare for the rest of the weekend.  In the afternoon, Shawn's family all came out to dye Easter eggs.   We didn't have long though beca...

Whew... Thursday

When I woke up Thursday, I didn't expect to have the busy day we had.  It's the days we spend together as a family that I cherish and especially days where I'm able to somewhat keep my sanity. We got up, dressed and fed the kids in a hurry, made my coffee and ran out of the house as we do every Tuesday and Thursday.  We aren't the best about getting up and around.  In the mornings the kids like to lay around on their iPads or playing with blocks which is hard to break on days Ben has school. While Ben was at school, the girls and I had a couple of errands to run and while we were out we decided to run by the pet store (not the one we went to Tuesday) to pick up some pig ears for Maya.  They are her favorite.  Sydney also picked out a pretty and bright colored tennis ball for her.  They had two sweet kittens there for adoption.  I fell in love, but it made my heart ache a little for Petty, probably because they looked just like her. The girls ...

Habemus Papam

We have a new Pope. I feel like I'm joining the Catholic Church at such a neat and historical time.  I was so excited to sit down with the kids to watch the presenting of the new Pope.  I was excited that they were excited.  I sat here with chills while my kids talked nonstop, Sydney calling him Mr. Pope, and they took pictures of the TV with their iPads. Ben kept saying, I'm going to show all of these pictures to Daddy when he comes home.  It was really cute. I'm excited for the future with our new Pope, hope for the best and am praying for him.

The Week Is Flying By

Is it really Thursday already?  This week has just flown by.  Between the ridiculously hot weather and the running from here to there, no wonder it's gone so fast.  I feel like Monday was just here. Oh my goodness have we done so much fun stuff this week. Sunday, after Shawn's parents left, Shawn did the grocery trip for me while Ben, Sydney, and I made M&M cookies.  Maya waited for us to drop crumbs so she could eat them.  She was not so lucky. Monday, Shawn worked from home since he was leaving that afternoon.  This way he could spend a little extra time with the kids and with me.  He even went to Rylie's checkup with us. Rylie is a cute and healthy chunky girl, but while she's a chunk, she's still longer than she is heavy, percentile wise.  When the doctor told us that he was going to send the nurse in, to give Rylie her shots, Sydney went into hysterics.  She did not want her sister to get shots.  She screamed and c...
