Tummy Full of Nerves

Good morning. It's been awhile, and I do promise that I have some posts planned and I truly plan on getting my vlog caught up as well.  I've been overwhelmed and can't seem to find my external hard drive anywhere.  I'm a constant mess and should be the poster child for what happens when you're unorganized. So, this morning, we came downstairs and the kids started going nuts over a butterfly in the window. Since it was still pretty early in the morning, I assumed it was actually a moth and went about making their breakfast. Rylie kept insisting that I come look, so finally I did and was in for a beautiful surprise. Shawn took the big kids to school since he is WatchDOG for the day.  I think it's cool they have the dads sign up to help at the school. I fed them breakfast and packed their backpacks and off they went, walking to school with their dad. I took the dogs out for a quick walk so they could go potty without getting too muddy.  Yup, you read that...

Rough Days

A friend of mine posted online a link to Scary Mommy .  It's about mommy shaming and why we do it.  My good friend Torren and I discussed some of this one evening, and agreed with one of the reasons listed.  We post only the good things on social media.  The good things our kids do, vacation, outings, children awards and first days.  We don't post the bad times, the times we break down, the times our kids are being rotten, well, being typical kids.  We basically lie to the world and only see lies.  In an effort to fix it, here goes my truth. Right now, I'm going through some rough patches with my little ones.  Particularly Sydney and Rylie.  It's attitude central from two extremely stubborn girls.  They both make up their minds that they are going to do what they want to, and nobody is going to stop them.  When you stop them, it's a nightmare. Yesterday, Rylie decided at Ben's school that she was going to sit in Ben's seat. ...

Bubbles, Finger Paints, and Many Meltdowns.

Today was a rough day with a few perks.  I spent the early afternoon having a major meltdown about laundry, dishes, and moving.  There just wasn't enough time in the day for me to meet my 5:00 deadline.  Shawn eventually talked me down and told me that the kids were my priority so the things I wanted to do with Ben, while Sydney slept, were what I should be doing.  I was so stressed because I'm at home while Shawn's at work and I should be making sure that everything is done so he doesn't have to do any of it.  Maybe that's old fashioned of me, but I feel like it's what is fair even though I'm also with the kids.  Normally, it's not an issue, but with the move and a 5:00 deadline, it was all too much for me. Ben and I decided to go outside on the deck to blow bubbles.  After blowing bubbles we were going to finger paint for Finger Paint Friday.  I thought that the weather was so beautiful we might as well do it outside on the deck.  Ben lov...

Ben's bizarre tantrums...

Last night, when Shawn and Ben picked me up from work, they brought the library books with them that needed to go back.  We figured we'd just put them in the drop off box.  Ben did fine as we drove through the parking lot, but when Shawn got out at the box to return the books, Ben flipped his lid.  It took us a little while to figure out exactly what he was so upset about but apparently he wanted to go the library and of course it had just closed.  We were supposed to go this week but didn't because of the weather and car situation.  We are borrowing Shawn's brother's Blazer, the gas guzzling beast, and I refuse to try to drive it.  I know that may sound silly but I drive a little tiny Pontiac Sunfire and have never driven anything as big as that Blazer and I'm scared of killing someone.  I can hardly climb into it as I get larger anyway.  And then you add the snow and ice to it and I just really didn't think Ben needed to go to the library that b...

What a weekend

Sorry to have updated so much today.  I was behind on my posting and had so many things to post.  I figured it was best to post them all in individual posts.  Now, it's time to put in an update on our jam packed weekend. Saturday, Ben and I went to Shawn's parent's house to spend the afternoon and evening.  We ate a wonderful dinner at Terry's new house, then went to the Legends to take Chris (Shawn's brother) his dinner, do a little shopping, and see the Christmas tree and lights.  It was so pretty and while it was a little chilly, we had a good time. While Ben and I were spending time with his parents, Shawn was here in Lawrence at a friend's birthday party.  We met Shawn there later in the evening.  Tim (the guy whose birthday it was) has a pet snake and he had it out so Ben could see it.  Shawn was holding Ben and had him trying to touch the snake.  He'd say "Can you touch it, Ben?" and Ben started tickling the snake, saying "tickle t...

Another crazy day and hunger

Our Thankful Turkey will have to wait either until I come home tonight or until tomorrow.  I've run out of time and patience for now.  I feel bad, because I don't want to be one of those people that doesn't have time to do things with their kids.  I'm trying so hard to involve Ben in everything I do, but I want to do fun things for Ben everyday also, not just making the day about me or the new baby. Ben is in terrible need of a nap today and has been since about 11:30 this morning.  I'm not in a great mood today either.  I didn't sleep well last night, because the baby was up moving around all night.  I woke up this morning and felt great but that has since worn off.  I just keep thinking now of all the things that have to be done before work tonight and the little amount of time that I have left to do it.  The good news is it is Thursday, so only one more day after tonight and I also worked almost an extra hour last night, so that's an hour les...

Already?

Ben has decided lately that he is going to fight sleep as hard as possible whether it be nap time or bed time. Shawn and I have always been fairly lenient parents. We don't have a set bed time for him, he just kind of goes to bed when we do and takes a nap after lunch. I think we are going to have to get him on a real schedule now since he's fighting it so hard. Also, when it comes to bath time, I've decided that Ben is going to have to go from about every other day bathing to every day bathing. He's a stinky boy that likes to make a mess of himself. He hates the water on his head making it difficult to wash his hair, but I think this is something we are going to have to work on because we can't go through a meal now without food ending up in his hair. I noticed today that his tantrums are really becoming extreme. I can hear it now as my mother-in-law jokingly says "Not my grandson!" He's so quick to anger and he throws things and hits when ...
