This Roller Coaster We've Been Living

How is it possible that the time throughout the day seems to move so fast, yet the overall time (weeks, months, etc) seems to be dragging along?  I feel like there is not enough time in a day to get everything we want done.  Maybe I'm not budgeting my time wisely, but I feel like the minutes and hours just fly by and at the end of the day I'm left thinking Why didn't I get this done?   On the other side of the coin, I'm not a patient person.  I wish I could be, but I'm not.  This pregnancy is driving me nuts.  I thought that with 2 small children already, time would fly by.  That's not the case.  I find myself anxiously awaiting February.  I'm probably crazy, but I can't help but be excited. Ok, now onto what's new... Last Thursday started as a pretty normal day for us.  We were completely out of food in the house so we planned on going grocery shopping as a family as soon as Shawn got home from work.  The weather here has been a...

The Holidays and Allergic Reactions!

Ok, so this is going to be a big, possibly boring update, but I'm hoping you'll try to stay with me... Going into the lovely holiday season, the entire family has been sick.  Four doctors visits and two emergency room visits later, we've entered the new year, and are finally beginning to mend. With everyone sick, it made it hard to do things that would put us in the Christmas spirit like crafts and baking.  I think we did one craft for Christmas and I did all of the baking pretty much on Christmas eve's eve.  I was super bummed that Ben couldn't really help me, but with him coughing and runny nosed, I really didn't want him anywhere near where the baking was happening.  Ben and I did manage to get the house decorated and to me, that was an accomplishment all in itself. I wrapped all of the presents by myself, but Ben was so sick, he spent most of the time conked out on the couch.  It gave me plenty of time to get it all done.  We had to, at one po...

Food Allergy Awareness Week

My son, as I've mentioned before, has a severe peanut allergy.  He is not alone in this as it is believed that approximately 12 million Americans suffer from food allergies today.  I read another blog regularly, The Nut-Free Mom , where she writes about problems she faces daily with a peanut and tree nut allergic daughter. I'm mentioning all of this because next week is Food Allergy Awareness Week.  I'm hoping that eventually we won't need a week designated to it, to make people aware.  In a perfect world, there wouldn't be food allergies or allergies of any kind, but it's not a perfect world.  For any parent of a food allergic child, everyday is a battle.  We have to read every label, even if it's something we buy regularly because you never know if production will change somehow.  We don't eat at most restaurants because the risk for cross contamination is so high.  We have to carry epipens with us every where we go and make sure that if we ar...

Where did he find that?

Last night Shawn was working on homework in his office. Ben and I were getting ready for bed. Somewhere in the bedroom and I don't know where, Ben found an old peanut butter cup wrapper. I took it from him immediately, but I washed his hands and then tried to give him Benadryl. He wouldn't take it and spit it all back out on himself. I washed him up and went to get Shawn which sparked an argument. I think this peanut allergy has both Shawn and I on edge. We tried again to give Ben Benadryl and he took most of it but did spit quite a bit back out on himself. We bathed Ben and then he and I climbed into bed. I couldn't sleep for anything in the world after that. Shawn went back to homework and I watched The Nanny reruns that I had on the DVR. Today I've decided that we have way too much clutter in this house. I have no idea where Ben found that candy wrapper. We can't let this stuff keep happening and I've got some major work to do around here. The ...
