French Toast

I seem to be lacking in my recipe posting lately, so tonight, I'll be posting a few of our family favorites. This recipe came from the Better Homes and Garden's Cookbook.  Growing up, my mother's copy was like the cooking Bible.  As I grew older, I learned it was her mother's cooking Bible as well.  When I moved out, my parents bought me this coveted book.  It's still a well loved resource, but mostly for this one recipe. French Toast Ingredients: 4 eggs (beaten) 1 cup milk 2 tbsp sugar 2 tsp vanilla 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg Bread of your choice (I like to use homemade bread, but pretty much any kind will do.) Butter or cooking spray Directions: 1.  In a shallow bowl ( I like to use a pie plate normally) beat together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. 2.  Dip bread slices into the egg mixture coating both sides.  If you are using a thick or dense bread, I recommend letting it soak for a minute ...

Counting and Shapes Games

Today, Ben told me over and over again that he wanted to play a game, but didn't know what game to play.  So, I made two educational games for him. Counting Game What you'll need: 2 different colors of paper scissors marker How to make it: 1.  Divide one sheet of paper into 10 boxes. 2.  Number the boxes.  3.  Cut out 10 squares from the other paper. 4.  On each square put 1-10 dots or other shape. How to play: Count the dots and put the dotted card in the box with the correct number.  Ben has a problem remembering the number 3, but once you help him with 3, he can count to 10 and beyond.  I was surprised that he could recognize the written numbers 1-10 as well as he could. Shapes Game What you'll need: At least 2 colors of construction paper marker scissors How to make it: 1.  Cut out several different shapes.  I cut out a circle, square, rectangle, diamond, pentagon, and octagon. 2.  Trace the ...
