The Berry Patch

Well, I have to say that today was much better than yesterday.  I still miss my Dad like crazy, but today I was strong, and I didn't even feel a reason to be.  I broke down yesterday and we are all ok.  I guess I just learned that it's alright to have days like that, but we have to pick ourselves up and move along the next day.

Today was jam packed with fun.  It started out with getting up, getting our stuff together and hurrying out the door.  Anybody with children can tell you that getting out of the house with them and all of their belongings quickly is easier said than done.  We got it all though, and ate breakfast on the road.

We took some flowers to my dad at the cemetery in Topeka.  I didn't want him alone.  I know that he's always with us and never alone, but I figured it would help me, and it did.  It helped me to be close to him.  Being there was what I needed.

The kids are still to young to completely understand.  The older two know he's in the wall but they don't really understand the details.  One day Sydney was asking Ben where my Dad was and he told her "He's in the wall."  She asked "Why?" (She's in the why phase now, and it's driving me nuts.) and Ben quickly replied "He lives there, and he likes it!" in a very stern voice.  I figured the last part was because he was anticipating another "why?"  Kids are often the best comedians.

Leaving Topeka, we saw the wind turbine that the kids love.  They look for it everytime and get very excited.

When we were done at the cemetery, we drove back to Kansas City to meet Kelly (Shawn's sister) for The Berry Patch.  I've never gone to a berry patch before but I have gone to my fair share of tree farms and pumpkin patches.  Let me tell you, it's the same thing.  You go pick what you want and then come back to pay, but only after checking out the cute general store.

That is the cutest place, and the blueberries are amazing.  We were eating them the whole time we were picking them.  I know, that's not totally honest of us as customers, but at least we weren't throwing them at each other like a couple of young boys that were there.  It was also fun just to spend some time with Kelly.  She's a really awesome person.

The general store had a big bee hive thing in a glass casing so we could look at the bees working.  It was so neat and the kids enjoyed seeing what the bees do when they are not drinking our flowers.

Look at all the blueberries we picked!  I can't wait to make some lemon blueberry muffins.

After we left The Berry Patch, drenched in sweat with full tummies, we went back to Shawn's parent's house.  We spent some time with Andy, Julie, Terry and Morgan.  We enjoyed dinner, played outside, bathed the kids and let the kids wind down with some My Little Pony on Netflix.

When we got home, they were all asleep so I carried them inside and laid them on the couch while I got the trash and recycling out and the dog let in, then I carried them up to my bedroom.  When Shawn is gone, they sleep on the floor in my bedroom.  I just feel better with them there.

Now, I'm going to bed.  I'm exhausted and ready to join the kids in dream land.  Tomorrow, we're going to the Deanna Rose Farm with my mom and brother.  I'm excited and know the kids will have a good time.

Thank you! When I was little, my Dad's brother was a huge part of my life. He even lived with us for a while after his divorce and I treasure that relationship we had. I hope my kids are able to have that with their aunts and uncles as well as grandparents.

I wish you were able to have your family nearby.

Blogmas 2014 - Day 8 What Is On Your Wish List This Year

Oh my goodness, I'm really pretty easy to buy for.  I have pretty much everything a girl could want.  I mean of course I have a few things but I'm not really counting on anything because I already got a huge gift of the new car. I really love scarves, especially infinity scarves right now.  I'm beyond obsessed.   Fun gadgets, appliances, etc for my kitchen are always a win for me as well as cookbooks and decorations.  I'm so into all of it, and it's the best go to gift idea for me. A nice pair of rain boots or wellies.  I just bought some for all of my kids for Christmas, and I've been dying for my own for years. Vera Bradley!  I'm so in love with Vera Bradley.  I'd like a bigger purse, as well as a library tote bag. And honestly I've not asked for any of even these things because what I want more than anything else in the world, is our own house.  I want to buy a house for my kids to grow up in an...

Blogmas 2014- Day 1 Favorite Christmas Tradition

This year, I'm participating in Sandra's, at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom, Blogmas 2014.  If you want to join in, you can go over to her post, by clicking here , and see what it's all about.   When I was a kid, growing up, we never had fake trees.  I loved everything about them. The smell, the way they looked, and even more so, the going out as a family in the cold.  It was always a hunt whether at a tree far or a parking lot full of precut trees.  When I was younger it was the parking lot.  There was a place about a mile from our house that we would drive to.  We'd walk through tons of trees leaning against walls and fences.  My dad would hold each one up, shaking them a little bit and asking what we thought.  We all got to be involved in finding the perfect tree.  As we got older, we started going to tree farms instead of the parking lot.  We'd get a sled and a saw and walk between aisles and aisles in fields, full of gorgeou...
