Ok, so I just finished this book. It's called Wonder by R. J. Palacio. I don't normally do blog posts about books, as I read a lot and a good chunk of what I read is what I call Fad Fiction so most people have already read or at least heard of it before.
This book I found through amazon. It was recommended to me because I liked another book that it thought Wonder was similar to. I can't even begin to explain the way this book made me feel. I laughed some, but mostly cried, and not necessarily because it was sad although there are a lot of sad parts.
Wonder is about a boy named August who has a severe facial deformity. He's always been home schooled until now when he's going to start the 5th grade at a pretty prestigious school.
This book is told from August's point of view as well as several others, such as his sister, her boyfriend, his best friends, and a few other classmates. It shows his struggles as well as the family's and school's struggles. While it's fiction, it's extremely inspiring and as a parent I could completely understand the parent's emotional roller coaster as well.
It's an easy and quick read and as the chapters average 2-4 pages, it's easy to pick up anytime because you can quickly get to a stopping point should you need to.
This is seriously one of the best books I've read in a long time, if not ever. Really!
