Happy Homemaker Monday

The weather in my neck of the woods:
It's 49 degrees right now.  I think it's going to get up into the 60s today, but also supposed to rain all day.

Things that make me happy:
Daylight Savings Time ending

Book I'm reading:
Cleaving by Julie Powell

What's on my TV today:
I have no idea, maybe last weeks Grimm and Once Upon A Time.

On the menu for dinner:
I believe we are going out to a family birthday dinner  at Cinzetti's

On my To Do List:
Laundry
Bed making
Dishes
Vacuuming

New Recipe I tried or want to try soon:

My husband is always on Reddit and he recently found their food subreddit so he has been sending me all sorts of things he wants to try.  I think he wants me to make this tomorrow: For The Love of Cooking - Pumpkin cookies with cinnamon icing

In the craft basket:
I'm about to start a wall cross stitch project for the kids room and play room.

Looking forward to this week:
Hopefully getting our schedule worked out so I actually have some me time.

Tips and Tricks:

This may be silly, but seeing as how I'm not supposed to do the vacuuming due to "light duty", when my husband does the vacuuming and then my kids immediately drop chip crumbs or something on the carpet, instead of waiting for him to come home so he vacuum again, I've discovered a lint roller works just fine cleaning up the little pieces you can't get with your hands.

My favorite blog post this week:
I've been really bad about blog reading lately only reading about the 3 normal blogs I religiously read, however I did find a blog I'm kind of in love with IHeart Organizing.

No words needed (favorite photo or picture, yours or others you want to share):

Lesson learned the past few days:
Nobody really reaps the benefits on the night you "gain an extra hour of sleep" no matter how hard you try.  It's just like setting your alarm forward so you will think it is later than it is.  It doesn't work.  You end up saying, well I can stay up an extra hour and finish this movie, or your internal clock doesn't get word of the change and wakes you up earlier than you were planning.

On my mind:

Getting the kids on decent schedules and sticking to it, even with our busy lives.

Yes, Grimm and Once Upon a Time, two of my favorite shows on the TV right now :)

Potato Soup

During Lent this last spring, I needed a meat free dinner to feed my sister-in-law and her family. Usually my potato soup has lots of bacon and bacon grease in it. I found this recipe here .This one is meatless, but it is important to add that it is NOT dairy free. There are adjustments you can do to make it dairy free though. It’s quick and was really well liked.  Potato Soup 6-8 cups russet potatoes, peeled and chopped 1 yellow onion, diced 2 stalks celery, chopped 1 clove garlic 4 cups vegetable stock 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded 1/2 cup sour cream or cream 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp pepper Pinch red pepper flakes 1 tbsp butter 1 tbsp olive oil In a large pot over medium heat, add the butter and olive oil. Once hot and melted together add the onions and celery. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Add the potatoes and minced garlic to the pot and continue to sauté all of the ingredients for about 5 minutes. Add vegetable stock and increase th
