The letter L

This week, we got a late start on our letter of the week.  This week, we covered the letter L.  I got this craft from No Time for Flash Cards .  Since we've moved, and live a couple of blocks from the hospital and while we are out and about see a lot of emergency vehicles so I thought that this one would be lots of fun for Ben.  I was right. L is for Ladder What you need: 2 colors of construction paper scissors glue crayons pen While I was getting this craft ready, Ben colored his letter L coloring sheet. 1.  Draw and cut out the letter L. 2.  Cut out 2 strips as tall as the L and then several strips as wide as the vertical part of the L. 3.  Color the L. 4.  Glue the little strips on the vertical part. 5.  Glue the long strips on the same part of the L, but going up and down.

My Poor Boy

There has been a lot going on here lately.  Things never seem to be boring around here.  I wish our lives would slow down or get boring, but it's not happening.  I'm tired of being busy and I'm really tired of all the "excitement."  Thursday, the guys came out to start removing the old bath tub and put in our new one.  It is a long process by the way.  We've still got a few days to go.  The guy doing it though is really friendly.  Ben likes him which is funny because he doesn't like strangers, especially men.  Here's what the bath tub looks like right now. Ben has had a double ear infection and been on amoxicillin.  Thursday, with about 1 dose left, he came down with a terrible rash and hives.  After talking to a couple of nurses on the phone (one of which was very rude and told me it was probably only a virus and I could bring him in if I wanted but that we wouldn't see a doctor only a nurse practitioner) we went to the doc

Hand Monarch Butterflies

This week, we've been watching the show Life from the Discovery Channel that we have on the DVR.  Ben has really enjoyed it and today he wanted to do a craft where we would trace his hands.  One of Ben's favorites on the show were the Monarch butterflies, so that's what we did. What you will need: orange and black paper black pipe cleaner googly eyes scissors glue tape black marker 1.  Trace both of your little one's hands twice on the orange paper. 2.  Cut the hand prints out and color them with the black marker.  Make sure to leave some orange. 3.  Cut out a body from the black for your butterfly. 4.  Glue the hands to the back of the body. 5.  Glue the eyes on the front. 6.  Tape the pipe cleaner, folded in half and shaped like antenna, to the back.  (I cut ours a little shorter.) And y

Watercolor Wednesday

I was a little scared to do watercolors today and the thought crossed my mind to either take it outside or to the garage.  We have no kitchen table right now since it's covered in boxes while we finish the work on the cabinets.  I sucked it up and we did the watercolors on the floor in the living room on our cardboard that we used for the other crafts today and thankfully, we had no mess.

The letter K

This week, due to my lack of creativity, I used the letter K craft from Totally Tots .  It's so cute though so that's alright. K is for Kangaroo What you'll need brown construction paper scissors glue crayons a black marker googly eyes 1.  Draw and cut out the letter K on the brown paper. 2.  Cut out a head, neck, tail, and foot for the kangaroo. While I was cutting these pieces out, Ben was coloring a K is for key and kitten coloring sheet. 3.  Color the letter K. 4.  Glue the neck, foot, and tail onto the back of the K. 5.  Glue the head onto the neck from the front. 6.  Draw his nose, mouth, inside of the ears, and toes on with the marker. 7.  Glue on the eye. And K for Kangaroo is done.

More Active Lives

Last night, Shawn and I were sitting on the couch after dinner thinking about our day.  We were talking and trying to figure out why we are so much more active now than we ever were in our old house.  We play out in the yard here.  We had a yard at the last house.  Not a big yard, but a yard, and we never went out to play in it.  We used the deck but that was it.  We've been walking, decent, lengthy walks.  We've also lived in Lawrence 5 years and just this last weekend went to the Lawrence Farmer's Market for the first time.  Why haven't we gone until now?  The best I can think is that with Sydney's birth, my being unemployed, and now the new house, we're kind of getting a fresh start as a family. Last night, we were going to walk to the park, but Ben decided he wanted to play in the backyard too.  We played catch with Ben, fetch with the dog, and Ben and Shawn wrestled around for awhile. Finally we went on a walk and played at a smalle

Farmer's Market and the rest of our Saturday

The weather here has been wonderful.  Today,  we decided to enjoy it as a family.  I say this, like it's something new, but we have really been working on spending time together and being outside as much as possible.  We got up this morning, and went to the Farmer's Market.  They had lots of herbs that I wanted to plant.  We don't have a place for them picked out just yet, so I have to wait another week or two.  I can't wait though.  We bought a few things including a small package of emu summer sausage.  It sounds a little odd, but the lady said it's really lean.  When we try it, I'll let you know what I think.  After the Farmer's Market, we went to get coffee and saw that there was a parade.  I'd totally forgotten that Earth Day was being celebrated today and that's what the parade was about.  I thought it was really cute. We came home from the parade and ate, then went to the park.  We
