Chicken and Leek Pie

I seem to have gotten a little behind with my 52 new recipes in 2017 with the chaos of the end of the school year, so now I'm hoping to catch up.  Recipe number 17, Chicken and Leek Pie, is something I'd never even eaten let alone cooked.  It has always sounded so good though, so when the  recipe  popped up on Pinterest, I jumped at the opportunity. Let me say, Oh My Goodness!!! You have to make this! It's amazing. All 6 of us loved it and everyone but Scottie had seconds. I've never seen 6 plates literally licked clean in all my years of mommy cooking. Chicken and Leek Pie 2 pounds bone-in, skin-on chicken leg pieces (thighs and drumsticks) 1 medium onion, quartered 3 sprigs parsley 1 small bunch thyme 6 sage leaves, divided 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided 2 leeks, thinly sliced (about 1 cup) 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1/4 cup cream Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

All Grown Up - Book Review

The 13th book I read in my 24 books in 2017 is All Grown Up by Jami Attenberg. All Grown Up by Jami Attenberg Hardcover: 208 pages  Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (March 7, 2017) Andria Bern is a young woman who seems to not want to grow up while all of her friends and family is. Her best friend got married and had a baby. Her brother and his girlfriend got married and had a baby who had a heart condition and wouldn't grow to be older than 5. Andrea on the other hand, is working in a job she doesn't care for but could do with her eyes closed and her hands tied behind her back. She drinks a lot, does occasional drugs, and has sex with random men. She distances herself from the people who really care for her while she self destructs. She's lonely and knows that she has a problem or several but is not capable or willing to fix them. Each chapter is from a different part of her life that show how she got to where she is and every couple chapters is a chapter o

Thirteen Reasons Why - Book Review

The 12th book I read in my 24 books was Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher Paperback: 288 pages  Publisher: Razorbill; 1st Edition (June 14, 2011) Ok, so unless you've been living under a rock you already know what this book is about.  The controversy surrounding the Netflix series and this book are completely insane but probably warranted. I have to start this by saying suicide is something that has effected me and my family, so it isn't something I take lightly. Thirteen Reasons Why is about a girl, Hannah, who has committed suicide and leaves behind a series of tapes that explain why she did what she did. With the tapes is a list of people that are supposed to receive these tapes, one after another. We see the story and hear the tapes through the eyes and ears of Clay, a boy who had a crush on Hannah. From an adult point of view, I can say that what this girl seemed to experience was not ok, but kids are cruel and the same

Happy Birthday Scotland!

Ok, so it wouldn't be me, if this weren't late.... Three years ago, I gave birth to sweet little Scottie. Since little Scottie has turned 3, I'm going to post a bunch of fun stuff about her, and then pictures from her 3 years of life, including tons from the last year. Her full name is Scotland Paige Tiemann. We named her Scotland after my dad, who was Scott. Paige was just a name we liked that was feminine and more "normal" incase she grew up hating her first name. We kept her name secret from everyone but close family until she was born because we didn't want anyone to tell us they didn't like it or try to get us to change it. Her birthday is April 16, 2014. She is the 4th child out of 4. She looks up to her big sisters and does everything they do. She is so funny! She makes me laugh everyday. She doesn't typically like new people, or even not new people that she doesn't see very often. She loves playing wit
