Open House

My little man is growing up!  Ben starts pre-school next week.  Expect a sad and sappy post from me sometime next week. Today, was the open house at his school so we got to meet his teachers, see his classroom, play outside at the recess place, meet some classmates and their families, do puzzles, color, and of course, we got to meet the class pet Sylvie. She's as guinea pig.  Ben thought she was hamster at first.  I had to explain that she's like a hamster but much, much bigger. This was in the hallway outside the classroom, before we went inside.  Of course Sydney had to get in the picture.  You can't take a picture unless it has Syd in it, here.  Hahaha!  You can see the excitement on Ben's face. The second we stepped inside, he got super shy.  It took a little bit to wear the shyness off.  We went to look at Sylvie the guinea pig and then he met another kid in his class who turns five the day before Ben does.  Those boys went and worked a dinosaur puzzle tog

And, this week...

So Monday, was our kick butt around the house day.  Shawn left for California nice early Monday morning and the kids and I were ready to get the house nice and clean.  We spent most of the day Monday working so yesterday and today have pretty lazy. When Shawn is gone, we always try to keep in touch so we are texting, calling, and face-timing all the time. Yesterday we played so video games and then went for a walk downtown with my in-laws.  They also bought us dinner at one of my favorite local restaurants out here, Wheatfields.  It was so good, and it was really nice seeing the family.  My only problem is that time flew by too quickly and before I knew it, it was after eight and we were saying our goodbyes. Last night, when we went to bed, I stayed up and watched Breaking Bad until just late enough to see Shawn come home.  It was so super late and then we woke up really super early to say goodbye even though the girls slept through it.  Today, I'm so exhausted that ever

Family Vacation Post Five

Since this is post five, you may need access to posts one , two , three or four . Thursday was our last full day with my family and our last full day in Houston.  We started the day by going to the zoo.  The animals seemed to think it was too hot to be out, since most of them were in hiding.  We still saw some pretty cool animals. They were feeding the tigers little pieces of meat to get them to jump up. Shawn decided they might be on the search for a new raccoon for the exhibit... Sydney was so nervous around the goats.  She was good until one walked up to her and then she was a screaming, crying, running mess. While we were at the zoo, we could see the hospital my Aunt Marci works at and a life flight helicopter came and went while we were watching.  It was cool for the kids to see. When we were done at the zoo, we went back to the house and met with my cousin Jill and all of the kids and went to the pool. They had a high dive

Family Vacation Post Four

If you need to catch up, you can catch post one , post two , or post three , by clicking on the links. Wednesday was by far the most busy day of them all and a day meant especially for the kids.  It started with us getting up and going to the Houston Museum of Natural Science .  I had read online that they would have a dinosaur exhibit and we are a family that loves all kinds of fun stuff like that.  What kid doesn't enjoy dinosaurs anyway? I was expecting a few big dinosaurs and then I don't know what.  I was in no way expecting to see the magnificent exhibit they had!  Seriously! When you first walk into the museum, you are greeted by this extremely tall Diplodocus.  Ben likes to tell me all about why they have long necks and how they use their tails for protection among many other things every time he sees this picture. They had a really neat, hands on science area for kids.  They got to race different thicknesses of slime, smell what the ozone smells like, and wh
