Playground Pet Peeves and a Little Random Ranting

The other day, I was reading a page that someone had linked to on Facebook about the dangers of small children going down slides on their parents or older siblings laps.  (I guess their shoes can stick to the slide and pull their leg around as you are going down the slide and the adult won't notice until it's broken the wee ones leg.  Nothing is safe anymore!)  At the bottom of the article was a link to something about Playground Pet Peeves.  Out of my own insecurities about being a helicopter mom, I clicked the link afraid I was going to have to defend my reasoning behind hovering.  I was actually surprised because a lot of the pet peeves on the list were that a lot of other parents don't hover enough. Anyway, this got me thinking.  As a mother that spends quite a bit of time at the playground I've seen a lot that I'm not thrilled with.  Here's a few that I can think of off the top of my head: 1. Kids that climb up the big slide.  It's always

A "Lazy" Day

Yesterday, Rylie woke up with a little cold.  She wasn't what I would say is really sick, she just was a little stuffed up and had a little cough.  Today, she woke up a little better than yesterday and I woke up with a major headache and body aches.  I didn't feel terrible, just sick enough that I felt like having a lazy day where I only did the basics and mostly just watched TV.  Of course I did the dishes and laundry, the usual daily tasks, but the extras didn't happen.  No floors were cleaned and none of the house was dusted. Shawn worked from home most of the day.  While we didn't get to see him much, it was still nice, just knowing he was here.  He traveled yesterday and was exhausted, so he got to sleep in a little bit this morning, then he had an onsite meeting, a couple of minutes from the house, and then came home to do some work and a call upstairs in our bedroom. This morning, I felt the need to feel pretty and the best way to do that, is to paint my nail

Slow Cooker Parmesan Honey Pork Roast

This recipe was another yummy looking Pinterest find.  The actual recipe came from  Six Sisters' Stuff .  It turned out absolutely delicious. Slow Cooker Parmesan Honey Pork Roast Ingredients: 1 (2-3 lb) boneless pork roast 2/3 cup grated parmesan cheese 1/2 cup honey 3 tbsp soy sauce 2 tbsp dried basil 2 tbsp minced garlic 2 tbsp olive oil 1/2 tsp salt 2 tbsp corn starch 1/4 cup cold water Directions: Spray slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray.  Place the roast in the crockpot.  In a small bowl, combine the cheese, honey, soy sauce, basil, garlic, oil and salt; pour over the roast.  Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or until a meat thermometer reads 160 degrees.  Remove the meat to a serving platter; keep warm.  Skim the fat from the cooking juices; transfer to a small sauce pan.  Bring to a boil.  In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch and water.  Mix until smooth.  Gradually stir the water mix into the sauce pan.  Bring to a boil; cook and stir fo

A loaded Saturday

Whew!  It's Sunday, and all I want is a day of rest.  Too bad a house wife and mother's jobs don't allow her to take a day off.  Truth be told, I don't want a day off, I just want a relaxing but fun day.  I'm hoping to get house work done early so we can enjoy the day as a family. Yesterday, we had a fun family day, but we were all split up.  Shawn took Ben to the Nascar trucks race.  My mom has season tickets to the races out at the Kansas Speedway, and she was nice enough to give us the ones for the trucks so Ben and Shawn could have a boys trip.  We drive by the speedway at least once a week when we go to Shawn's parent's house and every time, Ben says "I wish I could go to the races."   He was so excited all morning long.  He woke us up saying, "Mommy! Daddy! Mommy! Daddy! Today is race day!"  We got everyone ready and headed to Kansas City. When we got to Kansas City, we packed a bag for Ben and Shawn full of water, sunscre

Just Another Wednesday

Last night was night two of the kids sleeping in their bedroom at the new house.  For Ben, it went much better than night one, but it was a little more rough for Sydney.  Ben slept until 6:30 when Shawn's alarm went off then I talked him into going back to bed.  Sydney fell out of bed at some point.  Don't worry, she wasn't really hurt.  One of the reasons we like these beds so much is because they are so low to the ground.  It did wake her up and need a snuggle buddy to help her fall back asleep.  Shawn went down to snuggle her and the two of them fell asleep where they slept until I woke Shawn up when his alarm went off. Shawn was up late last night working and then got up bright and early for work.  I however fell asleep early and got up a little later, after being up with Rylie multiple times throughout the night.  Usually we aren't so bad at this, but for some reason, last night we forgot to put out our trash and recycling.  Usually this wouldn't be as big of
