Happy Homemaker Monday

The weather in my neck of the woods:
I think the high today is like 25 degrees.

Things that make me happy:
When my husband helps me with the housework even though he doesn't have to.  I know that sounds bad, but last night, I was picking up the kids toys and he was doing homework at the kitchen table and he stopped just to help me.  Makes me feel good.

Book I'm reading:
The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson  I'm hoping to finish it this week.

What's on my TV today:
Harry's Law tonight and today, gotta watch last weeks Grey's anatomy and Kennedy's home movies.

On the menu for dinner:
My Aunt Marci's Taco Soup recipe

On my To Do List:
Fold Laundry

New Recipe I tried or want to try soon:
Hot Artichoke and Cheese Dip
I made it for the Super bowl yesterday and it was a major hit.

In the craft basket:
More decor for the kids room.

Looking forward to this week:
Getting Ben's new big boy bed and all the kids sheets should be delivered this week as well.

Tips and Tricks:
When making a large purchase (mattress, tv, etc) ask lots of questions because you may figure out a way to lower the cost.

My favorite blog post this week:
Domestic Wonder/Life Simplified - Potty Training Tips

She's such a wonderful person/wife/mother.  I really love her advice and learn a lot from her.

No words needed (favorite photo or picture, yours or others you want to share):

Lesson learned the past few days:
It's alright to have a lazy day every now and then during the week, because you probably won't get to have one on the weekend.

On my mind:
Trying to get my poor sick boy healthy and hoping he doesn't spread this virus to his sister.

Potato Soup

During Lent this last spring, I needed a meat free dinner to feed my sister-in-law and her family. Usually my potato soup has lots of bacon and bacon grease in it. I found this recipe here .This one is meatless, but it is important to add that it is NOT dairy free. There are adjustments you can do to make it dairy free though. It’s quick and was really well liked.  Potato Soup 6-8 cups russet potatoes, peeled and chopped 1 yellow onion, diced 2 stalks celery, chopped 1 clove garlic 4 cups vegetable stock 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded 1/2 cup sour cream or cream 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp pepper Pinch red pepper flakes 1 tbsp butter 1 tbsp olive oil In a large pot over medium heat, add the butter and olive oil. Once hot and melted together add the onions and celery. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Add the potatoes and minced garlic to the pot and continue to sauté all of the ingredients for about 5 minutes. Add vegetable stock and increase th
