Happy Homemaker Monday

 happyhomemakermonday

The weather:::
It's been so hot... I don't like the temperatures in the 100s.  I'm definitely over the heat but I think it's only supposed to get to 90 degrees or so today.

Right now I am:::
Sitting in the kitchen at the counter typing up this post.  The kids are all downstairs in the living room watching Raven's House.  The girls have seen it several times, but this is Ben's first time watching it.

On my reading pile:::
I'm currently reading After You by Jojo Moyes. I read Me Before You last week and am cruising through this one.  I have The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware lined up to read next.

Movies or Shows I watched this weekend:::
The girls and I watched Descendants 2 and Raven's House on Friday night. Shawn and I watched Game of Thrones last night.  Other than that we didn't watch a whole lot.

On my TV:::
This week is Shark week so we have lots of Discovery channel on.
I'm wanting to start Ozark this week
I need to finish this season of The Ranch.

On the menu for this week:::

Monday
Beef and Broccoli with Rice

Tuesday
Fettuccini Alfredo with homemade bread

Wednesday
Bangers and mash with green veggies

Thursday
May grab something as Shawn has a softball tournament

Friday
Taco Soup with corn chips

Saturday
At my nephew's birthday party

Sunday

On my to do list:::
Kitchen......Pick up kitchen counters (Ben will keep up on dishes and Sydney will do the floor.)
Laundry.....Fold the laundry and wash the one load.
House...... (Ben will wipe down bathrooms, Sydney will vacuum living rooms and Rylie will dust.)

Kids doing chores has been amazing!

What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::
I haven't done much of anything lately. Ben wants to get into Cosplay a little bit, so I may start looking into how to make his costumes. I'd also like to jump back into my crochet blanket.

Looking around the house:::
It's really quite clean. We've been doing well at keeping it clean with the kids helping out.

From the camera:::
Since my birthday is during the summer when the kids aren't at school, we like to celebrate my birthday away from home. If we were at home, I'd spend the day doing housework as well mommies and wives tend to do. Usually we are away on vacation but this year we repaired and painted our back deck which left little money for a big vacation so we decided to do a couple of day trips. We decided to see things here in Kansas we've never seen before. We went to the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, the Wizard of Oz museum in Wamego, and the Dwight D Eisenhower museum, library and childhood home.

What I'm wearing today:::
I'm wearing a pair of denim shorts and my courage t-shirt I got at the Wizard of Oz museum. For the moment we are just around the house so I'm also wearing my sparkly ruby red house slippers.

One of my simple pleasures:::
Sitting outside watching the birds eat from their feeder and splash around in the bird bath the kids and I made for Shawn for father's day.

Inspirational Quote, Bible verse, anything you want to share:::

Happy Summer Birthday! What a great photo. We've never been to the Wizard of Oz museum of the Eisenhower Library but we did go to the Cosmosphere many years ago and I remember it being a really neat place to visit. Hope you have a wonderful week!

Potato Soup

During Lent this last spring, I needed a meat free dinner to feed my sister-in-law and her family. Usually my potato soup has lots of bacon and bacon grease in it. I found this recipe here .This one is meatless, but it is important to add that it is NOT dairy free. There are adjustments you can do to make it dairy free though. It’s quick and was really well liked.  Potato Soup 6-8 cups russet potatoes, peeled and chopped 1 yellow onion, diced 2 stalks celery, chopped 1 clove garlic 4 cups vegetable stock 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded 1/2 cup sour cream or cream 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp pepper Pinch red pepper flakes 1 tbsp butter 1 tbsp olive oil In a large pot over medium heat, add the butter and olive oil. Once hot and melted together add the onions and celery. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Add the potatoes and minced garlic to the pot and continue to sauté all of the ingredients for about 5 minutes. Add vegetable stock and increase th
