My big 3 year old among other things

So I really did get behind in my blogging.  These past couple of weeks have been totally CRAZY!  Ben's birthday was Friday, and as I'm sure any parent can relate to, we've been running around like chickens with our heads cut off in order to attempt at giving Ben the perfect birthday.  I'll get to more on this shortly.

We had been planning dinner with our friends Tim and Rebekah for a few weeks.  We try to do it every other week.  This time, it kept getting postponed (car trouble on our end, and personal issues on their end which is not my business to go any more in depth on).  We finally got to do it last night and it was so good.  It was supposed to be German themed, but due to a time crunch, it fell apart a wee bit.  It doesn't matter though, because it was DELICIOUS!  I made bierocks.  I posted the recipe here. They were so good and a hit for the adults.  The kids didn't really care for them, but kids are often picky.  Rebekah put together a really good salad and grilled pork chops.  I have to say that pork chops is and always have been one of my favorite meals, and one of the main reasons I could never be a vegetarian.

We went to a birthday party for our friend Marcelo's one year old daughter.  She is such a cutie!  I also got to meet Marcelo's wife, and I'm really not surprised that I like her a lot!  She seems really neat.  Marcelo is one of those people, that can make you laugh like crazy, and is quite boisterous, much like my husband, so I am familiar that it takes a special kind of person to be married to someone like this.  We had such a good time, and really enjoyed all of their friends and family that attended.

Saturday night, Shawn had poker night, here at the house.  The kids and I stuck around the house.  It was lots of fun.  We made cheese dip and provided some chips and pop as well.  Our friend, Dave, made awesome guacamole, and our friend Betsy made these really yummy sausage balls (I believe it's sausage, bisquick, and cheese).  A couple of people brought beer as well.  They played poker, we all watched movies, and then they played on the xbox.  I think/hope everyone had a great time.

Sunday night, we noticed that Sydney has her first tooth coming in.  She and her brother got their top, left lateral incisor first.  I don't know if this is real common, but I thought most kids got their bottom from teeth first.  Who knows, I think I just have weird kids.  Haha!

Last week, the evenings were spent with me going out shopping for the final touches for Ben's birthday while Shawn stayed home with Ben and sometimes Sydney.  I could not for life of me find food coloring.  Who would have thought that food coloring would be such a hard find?!?!  I think I was looking in the wrong place at all the grocery stores all along.

I attempted to make Ben two blue and red cakes.  The red didn't really work out.  I used a whole bottle of red food coloring, half on the cake and half on the frosting, and even with a strawberry cake, it still turned out pink, not red.  That was quite frustrating.  My poor baby had hot pink and blue cake.  Torren kept calling it "almost red."

They did taste really good though.  We had dinner at Cici's and a lot of good friends and family were there.  I regret that I didn't get pictures from the restaurant.  After dinner, we came back to the house for presents and cake.  So many people were incredibly generous to our Ben.  He definitely got a lot of gifts, and we had a good time.

We decorated everything Spider man

About to blow out the candles.

The cakes were layered "almost red" and blue with "almost red" and blue frosting.

He even was sharing his ice cream with his cousin, CJ.  It took me several times to get this picture.

He was so exhausted by the end of the night, he conked out, face down on the couch.

Now I'm the mother of a big three year old boy.  I'm so excited to see what this age will bring, but it's also a little sad.  I feel like he was born, I blinked, and now he's three.  Time has just flown by so fast.

I think that's pretty much it.  I know that more has happened, but I think that was all the big things.  Alright, time to put the kids down for a nap.  I'm hoping to keep up on here now.  I've got a lot of things I want to work on in the near future and I'm hoping to post it all so you can follow, and do as well if you'd like.

Try red velvet cake instead of strawberry if you ever need to again. It shouldn't turn out pink at all!

We were originally going to do that, but Ben has a peanut allergy and some brands are not as safe as others. Duncan Hines cake mixes are not safe, but are not labeled to reflect that so we normally go with Pillsbury or Betty Crocker. Normally we have a good selection of cake mixes, but when we went shopping for the cake, they didn't have any red velvet in stock so we were left with very few options and went for the strawberry. I'm just thankful Ben wasn't old enough to care, and I'm going to count this as a lesson learned. Haha.

Long Time, No Talk

Hey!! It’s been so long since I’ve come on here with anything other than recipes. Sadly, I haven’t been cooking much lately, so I don’t have any new recipes at the moment, but I have been super busy. It’s Nutcracker season in our house. It’s Christmas time, school concert time, and we have a million birthdays happening now and soon, but the thing that’s taking up all of our time is Nutcracker Shenanigans. All three girls are in the show. This year, Scottie is a sunflower. Rylie is a party child, a strawberry, and the understudy for both Clara and Fritz. Sydney is a snow, a trooper, and a part time flower. Ben is also working tech for the show. He’s been helping set everything up, and during the show he’ll be working the light board. I’ve been volunteering by watching littles during the tech week rehearsals, and another mom and myself have taken on the responsibility of running the Nutcracker Tea Party fundraiser for the pre professional dance company. It’s been fun, exhausting, someti
