Happy Homemaker Monday

Good morning!  I had a very productive weekend and while we had some rough patches, I'm fully ready to get into this week.  Hope this morning finds you all well and rested.

The weather outside is::::
It's incredibly frigid today!  Had to park in the lot at Ben's school and run in with him today.  By the time I was back at the car, my face burned and my hands were like ice.  At least most of this week will be 30s instead of the 20s we had all last week.  I really can't complain much, except that we barely got any snow last week.

On the breakfast plate this morning::::
So far, just a hot cup of spiced cider.  Might eat some yogurt and granola in a moment though.

As I look outside my window:::
Every thing is covered in a layer of white icy frost that won't be going away today.  Even though we have no snow, it does feel like winter is here.  The sun is shining and it's beautiful.  I'm so excited for winter to be here.

Right now I am::::
Sitting on the couch, sipping hot spiced cider, watching the Today show on the TV.  Apparently One Direction is on.  Sydney and Rylie are singing loudly with them and dancing while Scotland is sitting in her exersaucer watching them and bouncing along.  It's something else...

As I look around the house::::
I have a couple baskets of laundry to fold and put away.  I need to vacuum and desperately need to dust.  We had a productive weekend that left most of the house incredibly clean.  Shawn even got down on his hands and knees and scrubbed the kitchen floor.

On today's to do list::::
Laundry.....I have about 2 or 3 baskets to fold and put away.
Cleaning.....I'm' planning to dust and vacuum and maybe clean the glass.
Dance.... Sydney has dance this evening clear across town.
Meeting.... Tonight, we have a parents meeting for Ben to possibly wrestle this winter.
Grocery Shopping.... We put an order in to Amazon Pantry for some non parishables, but I need to do a list maybe put in another order and get a run to the grocery store in as well.

Currently reading::::
Game of Thrones by George R R Martin
I'm also reading Beezus and Ramona by Beverly Cleary to the kids.  They are really enjoying it and I love reading them books that I enjoyed as a child as well.

On the TV today::::
-- My Five Wives
-- Hart of Dixie
-- Gracepoint
-- The Carrie Diaries
-- Gilmore Girls

On the menu this week::::

Meatloaf, mac and cheese

Wednesday
Pancakes, bacon, and eggs

What I am creating at the moment::::
I'm whipping up a quick scarf for Rylie and I really want to get this paint project done.  Maybe sometime this week.

Potato Soup

During Lent this last spring, I needed a meat free dinner to feed my sister-in-law and her family. Usually my potato soup has lots of bacon and bacon grease in it. I found this recipe here .This one is meatless, but it is important to add that it is NOT dairy free. There are adjustments you can do to make it dairy free though. It’s quick and was really well liked.  Potato Soup 6-8 cups russet potatoes, peeled and chopped 1 yellow onion, diced 2 stalks celery, chopped 1 clove garlic 4 cups vegetable stock 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded 1/2 cup sour cream or cream 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp pepper Pinch red pepper flakes 1 tbsp butter 1 tbsp olive oil In a large pot over medium heat, add the butter and olive oil. Once hot and melted together add the onions and celery. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Add the potatoes and minced garlic to the pot and continue to sauté all of the ingredients for about 5 minutes. Add vegetable stock and increase th

Long Time, No Talk

 Hey!! It’s been so long since I’ve come on here with anything other than recipes. Sadly, I haven’t been cooking much lately, so I don’t have any new recipes at the moment, but I have been super busy. It’s Nutcracker season in our house. It’s Christmas time, school concert time, and we have a million birthdays happening now and soon, but the thing that’s taking up all of our time is Nutcracker Shenanigans. All three girls are in the show. This year, Scottie is a sunflower. Rylie is a party child, a strawberry, and the understudy for both Clara and Fritz. Sydney is a snow, a trooper, and a part time flower. Ben is also working tech for the show. He’s been helping set everything up, and during the show he’ll be working the light board. I’ve been volunteering by watching littles during the tech week rehearsals, and another mom and myself have taken on the responsibility of running the Nutcracker Tea Party fundraiser for the pre professional dance company. It’s been fun, exhausting, someti
