Blogmas 2014 - Day 15 Christmas Decorations

We are so cramped in our tiny home.  So cramped that we haven't been able to get out most of our decorations.  We've found room for some though, even rearranging the furniture in our living room just to fit the Christmas tree.

I love the wreath on my front door. We always had one growing up and when I saw this at Costco, I knew I had to have it.  I'm so in love with the gold decorations.

I love these hanging stuffy things but I never know where to put them.  I think I found their new home. Can you spot Ralphie, our elf, in the poinsettia?  That was his hiding spot this morning.

We got this guy as a gift last year.  We are KU basketball fans, so he does fit in.  As he is breakable, he sits behind my sink.

Above my cabinets.  You can make a few different words with these as they also have letters on the back, but this is my favorite.

That is a placemat that my mom gave me from when were growing up.  Every year I buy poinsettias from the preschool fundraiser and put them on the placemat on the table.  There are only 4 placemats and 6 of us so this works out better anyway.

I love our tree.  We wanted to wait to buy a new one until we bought a house, but a bunch of our old one wouldn't light so we went ahead and got a new one.  I'm glad we did, because it's gorgeous.  My girls are in love with the giant Santa and dance with it and talk to it all the time.  It's almost as big as my 2 year old.  The angel on the top of the tree was the one we had growing up.  When my parents retired her they gave her to me.  I always kissed her before putting her on the tree and then when we took her down before packing her up.

We decorated our own stockings this year.  You can see Ralphie peaking out from behind a candle, he sure is a cheeky elf.  As you can see, I'm a little obsessed with nutcrackers.  I don't know why, just always have loved them.  I really wanted the large nutcracker to go in front of the fireplace from Costco.  Maybe I'll go see if by chance they still have any on Wednesday...

We also put garland around the handrail up the stairs but I didn't take a picture of that.  I have so many decorations that we didn't even bother getting out this year.  I can't wait to have a little more space so we can fully decorate!

LOVE your decorations Liz! That wreath is so pretty & that's the primary colors I use a lot too as they match my house so well.

Love the cabinet letters & your tree is so pretty. And I bet the kiddos do love that big Santa. Thx for sharing.

Potato Soup

During Lent this last spring, I needed a meat free dinner to feed my sister-in-law and her family. Usually my potato soup has lots of bacon and bacon grease in it. I found this recipe here .This one is meatless, but it is important to add that it is NOT dairy free. There are adjustments you can do to make it dairy free though. It’s quick and was really well liked.  Potato Soup 6-8 cups russet potatoes, peeled and chopped 1 yellow onion, diced 2 stalks celery, chopped 1 clove garlic 4 cups vegetable stock 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded 1/2 cup sour cream or cream 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp pepper Pinch red pepper flakes 1 tbsp butter 1 tbsp olive oil In a large pot over medium heat, add the butter and olive oil. Once hot and melted together add the onions and celery. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Add the potatoes and minced garlic to the pot and continue to sauté all of the ingredients for about 5 minutes. Add vegetable stock and increase th
